Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team swept a PSAC West doubleheader against visiting Pitt-Johnstown on Sunday.
The Fighting Scots rallied for a 9-5 victory in the opener before scoring a 10-3 win over the Mountain Cats in the nightcap.
Game One
The Scots jumped out to an early lead. For the second time in as many games,
Adeline Maguire led off the game with a solo home run. Maguire drove in another run in the second to make it 2-0.
Isabelle Bavaro drew a bases-loaded walk to force across another in the second to make it 3-0.
Cassidy Weller extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth with a solo home run of her own. UPJ grabbed a 5-4 lead with a five spot in the sixth.
Weller tied the game in the bottom of the sixth doubling home Maguire. Bavaro hit a groundball that went under the shortstop's glove scoring
Abigail Olejniczak to make it 6-5 Edinboro.
Isabella Becker singled home Weller and
Ashley Rose belted a two-run single to set the final at 9-5.
Maguire finished the game 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Weller added three hits with two RBI and two runs scored. Becker and Rose each tallied a pair of hits.
Annalise Smith scored the win in relief allowing one hit over two innings of work with one strikeout.
Giana Ficcaglia went five innings allowing five runs, four earned, with seven strikeouts.
Game Two
The Mountain Cats took advantage of a pair of Edinboro errors in the top of the first to grab a 2-0 lead.
Becker led off the second with a single and moved to second on an error by the left fielder.
Emalie Thomas doubled to left field scoring Becker cutting the lead to 2-1. After a pair of outs, Olejniczak walked putting runners on first and second. Maguire singled to load the bases.
Hilary Sissem drew a walk to knot the score 2-2. Weller singled to left field scoring a pair of runs to give the Scots a 4-2 lead.
UPJ trimmed the lead to 4-3 on a Jenna Tallman single that plated Audrey Patterson. In the bottom of the fourth, Maguire reached on an error and moved to third on a Sissem single putting runners on second and third. Weller grounded out scoring Maguire. Bavaro doubled home Sissem to extend the lead to 6-3.
In the sixth, the Scots tacked on four insurance runs with Becker, Rose and
Tagan Basinger each driving in a run.
Maguire, Becker and Basinger each tallied two hits in the second contest. Weller drove in three runs and scored another.
Grace Kessel picked up the win in the circle tossing a complete game allowing three unearned runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
The Scots are back in action on Wednesday when they take on Gannon. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
