Erie, Pa - the Edinboro women's lacrosse team fell 22-6 to Gannon, Thursday evening at McConnell Family Stadium.
Gannon opened up the first quarter with an unassisted goal from Avrey Kirisits, but less than three minutes later Angelina Anderson put Edinboro on the board. The Golden Knights proceeded to score five unanswered goals; Charlie Hunter tallied two goals, Kirisits scored a women-up goal, Rayla Smith and Caroline Stevens were each credited with one, and Ella Todd had three assists. Edinboro finished the first quarter with a goal from Marissa Birchard, assisted by Jacqui Detelich, making the score 6-2.
The second quarter started with an unassisted woman-up goal for the Fighting Scots, from Detelich. With 11:01 on the clock, Kirisits advanced Gannon to 7-3 with a woman-up goal assisted by Stevens, and 30 seconds later Stevens tallied another goal for the Golden Knights. Looking to close the gap, Rylee Jones finds the net and brings the score to 8-4. Gannon finishes the second quarter with two back-to-back goals, Todd and Stevens each credited with one. Bringing the score to 10-4 as the teams head into the locker rooms.
The Golden Knights started the third quarter where they left off, scoring two consecutive goals—one from Hunter assisted by Todd, and a woman-up goal from Todd assisted by Kirisits. With less than ten minutes left in the quarter, Anderson breaks the Gannon streak with her second goal of the match, making the score 12-5. The rest of the quarter was all Gannon as they scored five unanswered goals; Stevens scored her fourth and fifth goal of the match, Todd scored her third, Hunter and Alyssa Lerch were each credited with one, Megan Lang, Emma-Cait Cogan, and Stevens tallied an assist each. Ending the third quarter with a score of 17-5.
Gannon kept building on their streak in the fourth quarter, scoring five more goals and making it ten consecutive goals; Hunter scored her fifth and sixth goals of the match, Todd was credited with her fourth, KJ Martin and Lang each earned one, Kirisits and Maggie McGinnis each tallied one assist. With 22 seconds left in the match, Aly Naro scored her first collegiate goal, bringing the final score to 22-6.
Anderson lead the offense with two points and two goals. Detelich tallied five draw controls, two points, one goal, and one assist. Birchard, Jones, and Naro were each credited with one goal.
Addy Ours took the loss in the cage with 20 saves in 59 minutes, as well as credited with four ground balls.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they travel to IUP for their last game of the season, for a 12 p.m. contest.
