Softball Drops Pair of PSAC West Contests to Slippery Rock

Slippery Rock, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team dropped a pair of PSAC West contests to host Slippery Rock on Monday afternoon.
 
The Scots fell 6-4 in the opening game and then dropped an 8-7 decision in the nightcap.
 
Game One
Edinboro scored first in the top of the first inning. Adeline Maguire led off a walk and moved to second on an Abigail Olejniczak sacrifice bunt. Cassidy Weller moved Maguire to third with a single and then stole second. Isabelle Bavaro loaded the bases with a walk. Isabella Becker drove home Maguire with a single to put the Scots up 1-0. After a strikeout, Emilia Marra drew a walk forcing in Weller to make it 2-0.
 
The Rock answered in the bottom of the frame. Julia Montie tied the game with a two-run single. She came around to score on a double to put Slippery Rock up 3-2. Edinboro tied the game 3-3 when Emalie Thomas scored on a wild pitch.
 
Alexsa Hurd hit a two-run home run in the fifth to give Slippery Rock a 5-3 lead. Montie hit a solo homer to push the lead to 6-3. Hilary Sissem doubled home Bavaro in the top of the seventh to set the final at 6-4.
 
Maguire was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Sissem also recorded a pair of hits and an RBI. Giana Ficcaglia gave up six runs, on six hits with five strikeouts.
 
Game Two
In the second game, Maguire opened the game with a triple and scored on an error by the third baseman to make it 1-0. Becker extended the lead later in the inning when she singled home Sissem.
 
The Rock tied the game on a Hurd two-run home run in the bottom of the inning.
 
In the third, Becker knocked in two more runs with a double that plated Bavaro and Sissem. In the bottom of the inning Slippery Rock retook the lead with three runs.
 
Maguire tied the game in the fourth with a double scoring Ashley Rose. Sissem gave the Scots the lead with an RBI single. Maguire made it 7-5 when she scored on a throwing error by the catcher after a swinging strikeout.
 
The lead held to final inning where the Rock scored three times for the walk-off 8-7 victory.
 
Maguire and Sissem each went 3-for-4 to lead the Edinboro offense. Becker added a pair of hits and three RBIs. Annalise Smith took the loss in the circle allowing six runs, three earned, in 4.2 innings of relief.
 
The Scots game with Gannon scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed. The next action for Edinboro will be on Friday when they host California (Pa.) at 2 p.m.
