Football Falls to No. 4 Kutztown in Home Opener

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro football team dropped a 34-0 decision to visiting No. 4 Kutztown on Saturday at Sox Harrison Stadium.
 
The Scots started the game strong kicking off to open the game and forcing a three-and-out by the Golden Bears. After a 72-yard punt from Nate Millard, Edinboro too over at their own 8-yard line. The Scots marched the ball down the field advancing the ball to the Kutztown 5-yard line while facing a fourth down and four. Nico Marchitelli broke the pocket and was tackled just shy of the line to gain giving the Golden Bears the ball back at their own 2.
 
After each team was forced to punt, Noah Kracyla fielded the Ricco Sastoque punt and returned it 52 yards for a touchdown. There was a flag thrown on the play, but it was picked up and the Golden Bears took a 6-0 lead. The point-after attempt was no good.
 
Edinboro was forced to punt on their next possession and on the second play of the Kutztown drive Jaedyn Stewart rushed for 61 yards extending the lead to 13-0 at the 10:12 mark. Luke Maxwell extended the lead for Kutztown with a one-yard plunge with 1:40 remaining in the second quarter to push the lead to 20-0.
 
On their final drive of the half, the Scots moved the ball with Marchitelli completing four passes and a Kutztown penalty moving the ball to the Kutztown 13-yard line with 3.5 seconds to play. Marchitelli couldn't hook up with Jerry Dinkins on the final play of the half, sending the teams to the break at 20-0.
 
Kutztown took advantage of a Scot turnover on the opening possession of the second half. Judd Novak hit Lenniek Preston for a 24-yard touchdown to push the lead to 27-0. The Golden Bears added a touchdown at the 9:27 mark of the third quarter to set the final.
 
Nico Marchitelli was 24-of-40 for 191 yards. Jaret Frantz was the leading receiver with nine catches for 70 yards. Gavin Ennis added eight catches for 58 yards and DaeDae Allen hauled in five passes for 34 yards. Dinkins had 10 carries for 30 yards.
 
Ty Reali and Amari Jones each notched eight tackles. Jones made 1.5 tackles for loss. Carlos Morales added six stops, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup.
 
The Scots return to action on next Saturday when they travel to Bloomsburg. Kick off is slated for 2 p.m.
