Men’s Basketball Tops Penn State Fayette

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team pulled away from visiting Penn State Fayette scoring a 99-54 victory over the Lions Saturday afternoon inside McComb Fieldhouse.
 
Edinboro came out of the gate firing building a 21-3 lead after an Evan Berger bucket at the 12:25 mark. The Lions answered with a 9-2 spurt cutting the lead to 23-11 on a Jesse Lawson Jr. basket with 8:43 on the clock.
 
Rowan Carmichael extended the lead to 26-11 with a 3-pointer at the 8:24 mark before the Lions went on 15-7 run trimming the lead to 33-26 on a Lawson layup. Another Carmichael trey and a Dakari Bradford layup pushed the Scot lead out to 38-26 with 1:37 left in the half.
 
Fayette closed the gap to eight, 38-30, on baskets by Jaylen Judge and Lawson. Berger hit a triple with 3 seconds left in the first half to send Edinboro into the break leading 41-30.
 
The Lions trimmed the lead to 43-37 on a Lawson 3-pointer at the 17:23 mark of the second half. A pair of Mekhi Reynolds 3-pointers and a Bryce Baez layup extended the advantage to 51-39. Lawson scored the next five to pull the Lions within 51-44 with 14:28 to play.
 
The Scots responded with a 16-3 run opening the lead up to 67-46 at the midway point of the second half. After a Fayette free throw, Edinboro scored the next 11 points to push the advantage to 80-47. The lead never fell below 30 the rest of the way.
 
Six Fighting Scots scored in double figures led by 18 from Reynolds. He also added nine assists, seven rebounds and a block. Carmichael added 15 points all from beyond the arc. Baez and Bradford each also tallied 15 points. Berger and Jonathan Anderson each finished with 10 points.
 
Lawson led the Lion offense with 29 points. John Osuji added six points and a team-high eight rebounds.
 
The Scots return to PSAC West action on Wednesday when they host Pitt-Johnstown at 7:30 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
