Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team forced 22 turnovers and held visiting Bloomsburg to 29.4 percent shooting from the field in a 60-38 victory over the Huskies Saturday afternoon inside McComb Fieldhouse.
Bloomsburg held a 9-8 lead at the 5:46 mark of the first quarter after an Alison Hatajik layup.
Hope Garrity gave the Scots the lead with a jumper at 5:16 and
Rachael Manfredo extended the elad to 12-9 with 4:35 on the clock. Alexis Ferguson cut the lead to 12-11 with a layup of her own before the Scots went on a 6-0 run capped by a
Carmen Vasquez basket at the 2:39 mark pushing the Edinboro advantage to 18-11. The teams traded buckets and Leah Kale hit a triple with 56 seconds on the clock to cut the Scot lead to 20-16 after one.
The Edinboro defense clamped down on the Huskies in the second quarter. Hatajik hit a layup at the 7:47 mark to pull Bloomsburg within two, 20-18. Over the next six minutes, Edinboro went on an 11-2 run taking a 31-20 lead on a
Taylor Blunt 3-pointer. The Huskies scored at the 1:35 mark to trim the lead to 31-22.
Kassie Potts hit a triple and Garrity scored at the buzzer to send the Scots into the locker room up 36-22.
In the third quarter, Bloomsburg cut the lead to 38-30 with a 3-pointer by Kale at the 3:42 mark.
Ava Haddad hit a jumper and Potts hit another trey to extend the lead back out to 43-30 with 2:20 left in the third. Kale scored again at the buzzer to cut the lead 43-32 heading to the fourth quarter.
The Scot defense held the Huskies to just 1-of-8 shooting from the floor and outscoring Bloomsburg 17-6 in the final frame to secure the victory.
Garrity paced the Edinboro offense with 16 points to go with three assists and two rebounds. Manfredo added 14 points, five boards and two steals. Potts also reached double figures with 11 points.
Ferguson was the only Huskie to score in double figures with 10 points. Hatajik and Kale each finished with eight points.
The Scots return to action on Wednesday when they host Gannon at 5:30 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
