Women’s Basketball Falls at Clarion

Clarion, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team dropped a 59-55 decision to host Clarion Saturday afternoon in PSAC West action.
 
The Scots trailed 29-21 at the break. They came out in the second half and opened with a 14-4 spurt to grab a 35-33 advantage after a Hope Garrity 3-pointer at the 4:34 mark of the third. Clarion tied the game 36-36 on an Arianna Seitz layup with 3:34 on the clock.
 
Garrity connected on another triple sparking an 8-2 run that saw the Scots build a 44-38 lead heading to the fourth.
 
In the fourth, the Edinboro lead grew to 53-44 on another Garrity 3-pointer with 5:33 to play. The Golden Eagles responded with 14 straight points taking a 58-53 lead with 31 seconds to play. Ava Haddad hit a layup to cut the lead to 58-55 at the 24 second mark. The Scots had couldn't find the tying 3-pointer and Niah Smedley split a pair of free throws to set the final.
 
Edinboro game out and scored the first four points of the game on a Taylor Blunt layup and a pair of Haddad free throws. Clarion scored the next 10 points to go up 10-4 after a Smedley layup. The Scots closed the gap to 12-8 at the end of the first.
 
Claire Noble hit a 3-pointer to open the second extending the Golden Eagle lead to 15-8. The Scots answered back with a 9-2 spurt capped by a Carla Brown trey to knot the score 17-17 with 5:01 left in the second. After the teams traded baskets, Clarion closed the quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 29-21 lead into the locker room.
 
Rachael Manfredo paced the Edinboro offense with 17 points to go with six rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Garrity and Haddad each tallied nine points.
 
Seitz led the Golden Eagles with 17 points, nine rebounds and four blocks. Zoe Guice chipped in 13 points and Alyssa Terza notched 10.
 
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they host IUP at 1 p.m. inside McComb Fieldhouse.
