Women's Soccer Drops PSAC West Contest to Gannon

ERIE, Pa. — The Edinboro women's soccer team lost to host Gannon 2-1 on Wednesday at McConnell Family Stadium.

The first half opened with chances at both ends, as Brianna Garey saved Brooklyn Respecki's shot at 1:03 before the Scots generated a Jada Cole shot, a corner kick and a Sonoka Shiokawa shot on goal by 5:01.

The Golden Knights added two more early shots, including Kennady Billman's attempt saved by Garey, before Eden Gerlach scored off Jada Cole's assist at 16:13 to give the Scots a 1-0 lead. The Golden Knights pushed back with a sustained stretch of pressure from 17:20 through 26:45, but Garey made seven saves during that span as the Fighting Scots kept the advantage to the break.

Garey kept the Fighting Scots in front early in the second half, saving Hannah Shepard's shot at 59:02 as the Golden Knights generated three shots and two corner kicks during a five-minute stretch. Gannon broke through at 67:00 when Grace Emanuel scored off Kennady Billman's assist to make it 1-1, then moved ahead 2-1 at 71:31 on Aubrey Pyne's goal from Emanuel. Garey added saves on Emanuel, Pyne and Brooklyn Respecki as the Golden Knights continued to press, while Cole nearly pulled the Scots level when her shot hit the top woodwork at 82:03, but Gannon held off the Edinboro push.

Garey recorded 13 saves, including nine in the first half. Gerlach scored on her only shot, putting the attempt on goal. Cole tallied the assist and finished with two shots.

The Fighting Scots host Lock Haven University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
