Erie, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team dropped a 111-73 decision to No. 6 Gannon on Wednesday night inside the Highmark Event Center.
The Fighting Scots trailed 33-21 with 8:44 to go in the first half.
Jonathan Anderson made a layup that sparked a 14-0 run capped by a
Mekhi Reynolds bucket to put Edinboro up 35-33 with 5:43 left in the opening half. Gannon answered with the next eight points to take a 41-35 advantage at the 4:17 mark.
Rowan Carmichael connected on back-to-back 3-pointers to knot the score 41-41 with 2:52 left in the first half. Anderson hit a pair of free throws and Carmichael layup put Edinboro up 45-41 at the 1:34 mark. Gannon scored the next five points to take a 46-45. Reynolds hit a jumper at the buzzer to give the Scots a 47-46 lead at the break.
The Golden Knights came out of the gate fast in the second half. Gannon went on an 21-6 run to open the second half to build a 68-53 at the 15:08 mark. The Scots trimmed the lead to 70-59 with 13:54 on an
Evan Berger 3-pointer.
Gannon went on a 12-0 run to push the lead 82-59 at 11:28. The lead wouldn't fall below 20 the rest of the way.
Reynolds led the Edinboro offense with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Carmichael added 16 points, four rebounds and two assists.
Amaan Sandhu finished with nine points and eight boards.
Pace Prosser paced the Golden Knights with 25 points and six assists. Lucas Morgan added 18 points and nine boards. Precious Idiaru also tallied 18 points.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Pitt-Johnstown for a 3 p.m. tip against he Mountain Cats.
