Men’s Basketball Scores Key PSAC West Victory Over Cal

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team notched a key 85-77 conference victory over visiting California (PA) Saturday afternoon in PSAC West play inside McComb Fieldhouse.
 
The Scots led for most of the game, but Cal grabbed a 70-69 lead on a Jordyn Buchanan 3-pointer with 4:02 to play. Brayden Reynolds extended the Vulcan lead to 72-69 with  layup at the 3:20 mark. Bryce Baez connected on a pair of free throws and Mekhi Reynolds hit a 3-pointer to take the lead back 74-72 with 2:08 remaining.
 
Breyden Reynolds tied the game 74-74 with a pair of free throws. Mekhi Reynolds scored the next five points and Ibrahim Adulmateen-Robinson hit four straight free throws to give Edinboro an 83-74 lead with 26 seconds to play icing the game for the Scots.
 
The Scots came out of the gate fast building a 7-1 lead after a Rowan Carmichael layup at the 16:16 mark. Cal answered with a 10-5 spurt to trim the lead to 12-11 with 13:35 on the clock in the first half.
 
Edinboro locked in on defense holding the Vulcans to just five points over the next eight minutes while the offense put up 22 to build a 34-16 lead after a Daniel Wilson-Charlot layup at the 4:56 mark.  Cal cut the lead to 40-25 on a Dalman Alexander free throw in the final minute. Carmichael scored a late layup to take a 42-25 lead into the locker room.
 
The Vulcans came out of the break chipping away at the Edinboro lead with a 15-5 run capped by an Antoine Arnett layup at the 15:35 mark. Dakari Bradford made a layup and Carmichael hit a 3-pointer to push the lead back to 52-40 with 14:19 to play.
 
Buchanan hit a 3-pointer closing a 20-8 run tying the score 60-60 at the 7:59 mark of the second half. The Scots went on a 7-1 spurt to push the lead to 67-61 after a pair of Carmichael free throw. Cal answered with a 9-3 run to set up the Scots rally down the stretch.
 
The Scots trio of seniors answered the bell on Senior Day. Baez tallied 18 points and five rebounds while shooting 8-of-11 from the field. Bradford added 17 points, two boards on 7-of-8 shooting. Reynolds finished with 12 points, six helpers and three rebounds. Carmichael also scored in double figures scoring 11.
 
Buchanan led the Vulcans with 24 points and seven rebounds. Alexander added 18 points and four boards. Reynolds chipped in 16 points, five assists and four rebounds.
 
The Scots return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Slippery Rock. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
