Indiana, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team dropped an 76-61 decision to second-seeded Gannon Friday afternoon inside the Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex
The Golden Knights got out of the gate fast opening with an 11-0 run capped by a Bri Claxon jumper at the 6:19 mark of the first quarter.
Taylor Blunt got the Scots on the board with a 3-pointer with 6:00 on the clock. The teams traded triples on the next two possessions to cut the Gannon lead to 14-6 with 5:09 to go in the opening quarter. Gannon held a 21-11 lead after the first.
Claxon extended the lead to 23-11 to open the second with a pullup at the 8:28 mark. Blunt converted an and-one and
Ava Haddad split a pair of free throws to cut the advantage to 23-15. Claxon hit a pair of free throws to push the lead back to 25-15 with 6:25 on the clock. Edinboro answered with 11 straight points led by seven from
Rachael Manfredo to take a 26-25 lead with 2:47 left in the second quarter. The Golden Knights finished the second on a 10-0 run to take a 35-26 lead into the break.
Manfredo scored the first bucket of the second half to cut the lead to 35-28, but Gannon scored the next 12 points to build a 47-28 lead at the 7:13 mark.
Taylor Phillips hit a 3-pointer at the 6:47 mark to cut the lead 47-31. The Golden Knights responded with a 16-4 spurt to push the lead to 63-35 with 1:20 left in the third. A Phillips layup and a Haddad and-one cut the lead to 63-40 after three.
The Golden Knight lead grew to 67-42 after a Claxon layup at the 8:37 mark. Haddad scored a layup and Manfredo and Phillips hit 3-pointers to trim the lead to 67-50. The Scots would get as close as 13, 72-59, with 1:45 to play but a pair of Gannon layups pushed the lead back to 76-59 and
Maura Suman wrapped up the scoring with a layup at the 28 second mark.
Manfredo led the Edinboro offense with 16 points and eight rebounds. Phillips added 12 points and three assists. Suman chipped in eight points, five rebounds and four helpers.
Claxon scored 21 to pace the Golden Knights. Ratliff added 15 points and four assists.
The Scots finished the year 19-14 overall and reached the NCAA Atlantic Regional for the second-straight season.
