Men’s Basketball Falls to IUP in PSAC Championship Opening Round

Indiana, Pa. – The Edinboro men's basketball team dropped an 85-66 decision to IUP in the opening round of the PSAC Championship Monday night inside the Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex.
 
Edinboro grabbed an early lead on a Mekhi Reynolds triple at the 16:43 mark to go up 5-4. The Crimson Hawks responded with 11 straight points capped by a Luke Triggs 3-pointer to make it 15-5 with 13:04 on the clock.
 
Bryce Baez scored the next five points to pull the Scots within 15-10. Rowan Carmichael made a layup and Baez split a pair of free throws to trim the IUP lead to 15-13 with 8:36 left in the first half. Dallis Dillard stopped the Edinboro run with a 3-pointer before Triggs made the lead 20-13 with a layup.
 
IUP held a 23-15 lead with 6:51 left in the first quarter on a Triggs 3-pointer. Amaan Sandhu answered with a trey with 5:24 to play in the opening half cutting the lead to 23-18. The Crimson Hawks closed the half on a 20-7 run to take a 43-25 lead into the locker room.
 
In the second half, the Scots came out of the break with an 11-6 spurt to close the gap to 49-36 on a Sandhu dunk with 15:38 to play. The Crimson Hawks hit back-to-back treys to spark a 13-2 run the extended the lead to 62-38 with 12:11 on the clock. Edinboro got as close as 15, 73-58, on a pair of Carmichael free throws at the 4:45 mark, but that was as close as they would get.
 
Carmichael led the Edinboro offense with 20 points. Sandhu added 14 points and five rebounds while Baez added 12 points, five boards and three assists.
 
Christian Moore paced the Crimson Hawks with 17 points and six boards. Triggs added 16 points and six rebounds.
 
The Scots finished the season 13-15 overall and reached the PSAC Postseason for the second consecutive year.
