Softball Falls to Slippery Rock in PSAC West Doubleheader

Slippery Rock, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team dropped a pair of PSAC West contests to Slippery Rock in Scots PSAC West opener.

In the first game Edinboro fell 5-0 and the Scots dropped an 8-4 decision in the nightcap.

In the opener, the teams were scoreless through two and a half innings. In the bottom of the third inning, the Rock took advantage of a pair of Scot errors to score four unearned runs to go up 4-0. Slippery Rock tacked on an insurance run in the fourth to set the final.

Isabella Becker and Isabelle Bavaro each had a hit for the Scots. Giana Ficcaglia took the loss in the circle tossing four innings allowing five runs, one earned, on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

The Scots fell behind 5-0 in the second contest  and found some offense in the top of the fifth. Adeline Maguire led off with a walk, but was erased on a Lucy Higley fielder's choice. A wild pitch and an Alara Bem single but runners on the corners. After a ground out pushed Bem to second, Becker doubled home a pair of runs. Hilary Sissem singled home Becker and came around to score on a Cassidy Weller double to pull Edinboro within 5-4. The Rock answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to set the final.

Sissem led the offense going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Becker, Weller and Bem also had hits for the Scots. Kelsey Warren took the loss going 4.1 innings allowing seven runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

The Scots are back in action on Wednesday with a trip to Gannon. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
