Erie, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team dropped a pair of PSAC West contests at Gannon on Wednesday afternoon.
The opener was an offensive show as the Scots fell 14-12 on a walk-off home run and then in the second half of the doubleheader dropped a 5-2 decision.
In the opener, the teams each pushed a run across in the first inning. The Scot bats came to life in the top of the third inning.
Alara Bem drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a groundout.
Hilary Sissem singled home Bem to give the Scots a 2-1 advantage.
Cassidy Weller singled and
Isabelle Bavaro doubled plating both Sissem and Weller extending the lead to 4-1.
Emalie Thomas singled to put runners on the corners.
Adeline Maguire doubled home Bavaro and both Thomas and Maguire scored on an
Ashley Rose single. The Scots scored six runs on six hits in all in the inning.
The Golden Knights clawed back two runs in the bottom of the frame to cut the lead to 7-3, before the Scots put up a three spot in the top of the fourth with RBIs from Sisem, Weller and Bavaro. The Edinboro lead grew to 12-5 after a pair of runs for the Scots in the top of the fifth. Gannon responded with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to trim the lead to 12-10.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Golden Knights connected on back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning and cut the lead to 12-11. After a Sadie Carroll walk, Jenna Clantz hit a three-run walk-off homer to set the final 14-12.
Bavaro led the way at the plate going 5-for-5 with five RBI and a run scored. Weller was 4-for-5 with two runs batted in and three runs scored. Sissem finished with three hits and two runs scored.
Kelsey Warren took the loss in the circle in relief.
In the second game, Gannon jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two runs each in the second and third. Edinboro got one back in the top of the fourth. Maguire led off with a hit by pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Lucy Higley connected on a double to score Maguire and cut the lead to 4-1.
The Golden Knights tacked on an insurance run in the sixth. The Scots threatened in the seventh with Rose and
Abigail Olejniczak posting one-out singles putting runners on first and second.
Isabella Becker singled up the middle plating Rose to cut the lead to 5-2, but a caught stealing and a groundout ended the game.
Seven different Scots had a hit in the second contest with Becker and Higley each picking up an RBI. Weller took the loss in the circle allowing four runs in two innings of work with one strikeout.
The Scots return to action on Saturday when they travel to IUP.
