Johnstown, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team split a pair of games with host Pitt-Johnstown Sunday afternoon.
In the opener, the Scots scored an 8-3 victory before dropping a 5-4 decision in the second game.
Game one was tied 3-3 after four innings. In the top of the fifth, the first two Scots struck out before
Adeline Maguire tripled over the centerfielder.
Emalie Thomas single Maguire home to push Edinboro ahead 4-3.
The Scots added to the lead in the seventh. Lucy Higley notched a two run single and came around to score along with
Alara Bem capitalizing off a Mountain Cat error. UPJ put on a pair of runners in the seventh but couldn't push across a run.
Isabella Beck was 2-for-3 with a pair of walks setting the table at the top of the order. Maguire was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Bem also collected a pair of hits.
Giana Ficcaglia scored the win in the circle going seven innings allowing three runs, one earned, on seven hits with seven strikeouts.
Edinboro jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game two on a
Cassidy Weller sacrifice fly and a Maguire RBI single in the top of the first.
Maguire extended the lead in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly plating Isabelle Bavara. The Mountain Cats cut the lead to 3-1 with a run in the bottom of the frame.
UPJ took the lead with three unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth taking a 4-3 lead. Weller doubled home Bem to tie the game up in the top of the sixth. UPJ answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth to take the 5-4 win.
Becker had three hits from the leadoff spot in game two. Weller finished the contest 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Grace Kessel started going four innings allowing three runs one earned on six hits with six strikeouts.
Kelsey Warren took the loss allowing two runs, one earned, in two innings of work.
The Scots are back in action on Monday when they travel to IUP for 2 p.m. doubleheader against the Crimson Hawks.
