Softball Falls to Clarion in PSAC West Doubleheader

Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team dropped a pair of contests to visiting Clarion Saturday afternoon in PSAC West action.
 
The Scots fell 6-1 in the opener before dropping a 9-1 decision in six innings in the nightcap.
 
In the first game, the Golden Eagles struck first in the top of the first inning. Delanie Davison hit a sacrifice fly and Sabi Medrana stole home to take a 2-0 lead. Clarion tacked on a pair of runs on an Edinboro error in the top of the second extending the lead to 4-0.
 
In the third, the Scots got on the board. Isabella Becker led off with a double and came around to score on a Hilary Sissem double cutting the lead to 4-1.
 
The Golden Eagles took advantage of another Edinboro error to push the lead to 5-1. Amber Gilliam tripled home an insurance run in the top of the fifth to set the final.
 
Becker and Cassidy Weller each tallied a pair of hits to lead the Edinboro offense. Gianna Ficcaglia took the loss in the circle allowing six runs, five earned, on five hits with two strikeouts.
 
Clarion jumped on top in the second game using sacrifice flies from Emma Hipps and Brooke Dobson to grab a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. The Golden Eagles tacked on a run in the third to pull ahead 3-0.
 
Adeline Maguire hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to pull the Scots within 3-1. Clarion used three hits and two Edinboro errors to push across four runs in the fifth to extend the advantage to 7-1. Gilliam doubled home two runs in the sixth and the Scots were held scoreless in the bottom of the frame to invoke the run rule.
 
Grace Kessel took the loss in the circle going four innings allowing seven runs, five earned, on six hits with three strikeouts.
 
The Scots return to action on Sunday when they host Slippery Rock at 1 p.m.
