Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team dropped a pair of contests to Slippery Rock Sunday afternoon in PSAC West action.
The Scots dropped the opener 11-2 in five innings and then fell 9-6 in the night cap.
In the first game, the Rock jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a le. ad-off home run from Maddie Cavenaugh. Slippery Rock scored four in the top of the second to extend the lead to 5-0.
In the fourth, Slippery Rock pushed across six runs on four hits with one Scot error to push the lead to 11-0. Edinboro got a run back in the bottom of the frame when
Isabelle Bavaro doubled home
Adeline Maguire.
In the fifth,
Isabella Becker hit a one-out double and came around to score on a
Cassidy Weller double setting the final.
Becker had a double and a run scored. Weller and Bavaro each had a double with an RBI.
Kelsey Warren took the loss in the circle allowing four runs on four hits in 1.1.
In the second game, Slippery Rock got a 5-1 lead after the top of the third. The Scots answered in the bottom of the frame. Warren and Becker drew back-to-back walks to lead off the inning. After a pop out, Weller doubled in both Warren and Becker to cut the lead to 5-3. Maguire hit a two-run homer to tie the score 5-5.
The Rock took a 6-5 lead in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth,
Hilary Sissem led off with a single and moved to third on a pair of wild pitches. Weller reached on an error forcing home Sissem to knot the score 6-6.
In the seventh, the Rock pushed three runs across to take the lead and held the Scots off the board to secure the win.
Weller and Maguire each tallied a pair of hits to lead the Edinboro offense. Gianna Ficcaglia took the loss in the circle pitching 3.2 innings of relief allowing four runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
The Scots are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Lake Erie for 3 p.m. contest with the Storm.
