Softball Drops Pair to California (PA)

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team fell in both ends of PSAC West doubleheader on Friday afternoon.
 
The Scots dropped the opener 12-11 before falling 5-3 in the nightcap.
 
In game one, the Vulcans struck first with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Isabella Becker hit a solo home run in the top of the third to cut the lead to 3-1.
 
Cal scored in the bottom of the third to push the lead to 4-1. In the top of the fourth, Mia Rogers drove home a run with an RBI groundout and Becker picked up a sacrifice fly to trim the lead to 4-3. The Scots tied the game in the fifth when Adeline Maguire scored on a double steal attempt.
 
In the bottom of the fifth, the Vulcans scored six runs on seven hits to take a 10-4 lead. Edinboro responded in the top of sixth, Adoria Waldier led off with a single and moved to second on a Becker single. Hilary Sissem loaded the bases with an infield single. Cassidy Weller hit a single of her own scoring two and cutting the lead to 10-6. Maguire plated Sissem with a single of her own. Isabelle Bavaro doubled home Weller to pull the Scots within 10-8. A wild pitch scored Bavaro and Emalie Thomas tied the game with a sac fly.
 
Edinboro grabbed their first lead of the game in the seventh when Weller hit a sac fly that plated Becker. Cal won the game in the bottom of the frame on a walk-off two-run homer by Makayla Schlosser.
 
Becker led the offense going 2-for-3 with walk, three runs scored and two RBI. Sissem tallied three hits as did Bavaro. Kelsey Warren took the loss in relief throwing 3.1 innings allowing eight runs with two strikeouts.
 
In the second contest it was Edinboro that scored first with Maguire singling home Weller in the top of the first. The Vulcans scored a run in each of the first and second to take a 2-1 lead.
 
Bavaro tied the game with an RBI double in the top of the third scoring Maguire. Amarah McCutcheon put the Vulcans up 5-2 with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth.
 
Edinboro scored once in the top of the seventh to trim the lead to 5-3, but couldn't complete the comeback.
 
Sissem, Weller and Bavaro all recorded a pair of hits. Gianna Ficcaglia took the loss in the circle allowing five runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
 
The Scots return to action on Saturday at Seton Hill. First pitch has moved up to noon in Greensburg.
