Edinboro, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team dropped both ends of a PSAC West doubleheader to visiting Seton Hill Thursday afternoon.
The Scots fell 12-4 in five innings in the opener before dropping an 11-5 rain shortened contest in the nightcap.
In the opener, Edinboro struck first in the bottom of the first inning.
Isabella Becker led the inning off with a single and promptly stole second.
Hilary Sissem singled home Becker to put the Scots up 1-0.
Edinboro held that lead until the top of the fourth. The Griffins used five hits including a pair of solo home runs to score six runs and take a 6-1 lead. Seton Hill added six more in the top of the fifth to extend the lead to 12-1.
In the bottom of the frame Sissem drove home Becker again sparking three runs, but the Scots three runs weren't enough to avoid the run rule at 12-4.
Becker was 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Sissem,
Cassidy Weller and
Adeline Maguire each notched a pair of hits. Gianna Ficcaglia took the loss in the circle allowing four runs on four hits with three walks and a strikeout.
In the second game, the Scots grabbed a 1-0 lead early when
Alara Bem grounded out plating
Abigail Olejniczak.
In the top of the third the rain began to fall forcing a delay of 1:17. The Griffins came back from the break with the bats ready scoring three runs in the fourth. A Sissem RBI walk and a Weller sacrifice fly tied the game 3-3 after four.
Seton Hill tallied eight runs on 10 hits in the top of the fifth to take an 11-3 advantage. The Scots staved off the run rule in the bottom of the fifth when
Emalie Thomas forced home Lucy Higley with a walk. Becker recorded an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 11-5. The teams played a scoreless sixth with the game ending due to darkness.
Ashley Rose led the Edinboro offense with three hits. Weller added a pair of hits.
Grace Kessel took the loss in the circle allowing four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
The Scots return to action on Friday when they host Slippery Rock at 2:00 p.m.
