Softball Drops Pair at Clarion

CLARION, Pa. – The Edinboro softball team dropped both halves of a PSAC West doubleheader to host Clarion Saturday afternoon.
 
In the opener, the Scots struck first. Abigail Olejniczak reached on a bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Isabella Becker. Hilary Sissem singled to center scoring Olejniczak and making it 1-0 Scots.
 
The Golden Eagles used three straight singles to load the bases in the bottom of the sixth. After a strikeout, Delanie Davison drew a walk to even the score. Jordy Best singled in two more and the Scots didn't score in the top of the seventh setting the final.
 
Sissem finished 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Isabelle Bavaro was also 2-for-3. Gianna Ficcaglia took the loss allowing three runs in 5.1 innings of work with five strikeouts and one walk.
 
In the second contest, Adeline Maguire gave the Scots the lead in the top of the first with a two run single. Clarion answered with a four run bottom of the inning with all four runs being unearned.
 
Edinboro tied the game in the top of the second with a sac fly from Sissem and a Cassidy Weller RBI single.  The Golden Eagles opened up the lead scoring six times in the bottom of the second on their way to a 13-5 victory in five innings.
 
Weller collected two hits and RBI and a run scored. Maguire was 1-for-2 with two RBI. Grace Kessel took the loss in the circle allowing 10 runs, six earned, in 1.2 innings with three strikeouts.
 
The Scots close out the regular season on Sunday when they host Gannon. First pitch is slated for noon.
