KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Edinboro women's volleyball team lost 3-0 to Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday, falling 25-27, 23-25, 22-25.
After Tex. A&M-Kingsville moved ahead 7-5, the Scots scored four straight points on
Makayla Neelands' serve, tying it on
Taylor Pucky's kill. They took the lead Neelands' ace and building a 10-7 lead with a Pucky-
Maggie Koster block and a Koster kill. Tex. A&M-Kingsville pulled even at 14-14, and the set stayed tight from there, with
Christina Lockett,
Reilly Parent and Pucky helping the Fighting Scots trade points through a 21-21 tie. The Scots reached set point at 24-22 after a Javalina service error and bad set, but the home team scored the next three points before Neelands' kill tied it at 25-25. Tex. A&M-Kingsville closed the set with consecutive kills to take the opening set 27-25.
The Fighting Scots built a 5-2 lead in the second set with a
D'Aira Whitner kill from
Grace Petro, a Lockett kill and two Tex. A&M-Kingsville attack errors, then stayed in front at 8-5 on a Neelands kill from
Laney Burns. Tex. A&M-Kingsville worked back to 9-9 on kills by Karrington Crawford and Cambelle Brammer and went ahead 12-11 on a Tayae Garcia ace, but the Scots moved back in front at 15-13 with Whitner's kill and a block by Koster and Pucky. After Tex. A&M-Kingsville tied it again at 18-18 on Brammer's kill, the Fighting Scots took five of the next six points; Parent and Lockett combined on a block, Parent served an ace, Neelands and Lockett added another block, and a Brammer attack error made it 23-19. Tex. A&M-Kingsville answered with the final six points, getting a Natalee Rush kill and two blocks involving Rush before Kamryn Briggs' kill, Rush's kill and a Scots attack error finished the set at 25-23.
After Parent's opening kill, Tex. A&M-Kingsville moved in front 5-1 and later built a 9-3 lead. The Scots cut into the deficit behind kills from DAira Whitner and Pucky, a Burns ace and a Parent-Lockett block to get within 12-10. Tex. A&M-Kingsville pushed the margin back to 20-14, but the Fighting Scots worked back again with points from Pucky, Neelands, Lockett, Parent and Whitner to tie the set at 22-22. Tex. A&M-Kingsville answered with three straight kills to close the set, 25-22.
Neelands recorded 19 digs, five kills, one ace and one block assist.
Faith Schneider matched her with 19 digs and added two service aces. Parent finished with six kills, 10 digs, four block assists and a team-high 9.0 points. Burns led the Scots with 15 assists and added two aces and five digs.
