JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — The Edinboro women's soccer team defeated Pitt.-Johnstown 4-2 in PSAC West play on Saturday.
The Scots came out fast with
Samantha Saylor forcing an early save at 1:05. Edinboro grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 4:20 mark when
Jordyn Miller scored off an assist from
Adison Cook. The Fighting Scots continued to apply pressure with shots from Miller,
Grace Madison and
Sydney Patterson early in the first half.
At 39:33,
Abriella Whatmore had a shot saved and Saylor jumped on the rebound to put the Scots up 2-0. Edinboro took that 2-0 lead into the break.
The Scots created the first sustained attacking stretch of the second half, with
Jada Cole sending a shot wide of the top right at 49:25 and setting up stretch with three corner kicks for Edinboro. The Mountain Cats came back with a corner kick and a shot off targert in the 62nd minute.The Fighting Scots added to the lead when
Hailey Marchlewski scored at 67:28. Cole added an insurance tally off a Marchlewski's assist at 71:57 to make it 4-0.
The Mountain Cats cut into the deficit on Rylee Fry's goal from Giovanna Fuchel at 78:55 and Katie Wiley's goal at 83:00, but the Scots carried the 4-2 advantage through the end of the second half.
Marchlewski scored, added an assist and was credited with the game-winning goal while finishing with two shots. Miller scored the first goal and put both of her shots on frame. Saylor scored on two shots, both on goal. Cole added a goal and finished with three shots.
Brianna Garey picked up the win in net with one save.
The Fighting Scots host D'Youville University on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. inside Sox Harrison Stadium.
