Caitlin Formato was appointed as the head women’s lacrosse coach on September 28, 2016 and enters her second season as head coach in 2017. She is the second coach of the women’s lacrosse program, following in the footsteps of Kevin Coke, the coach of the program since its inception in 2009.

“We’re excited to have Caitlin on board,” related Director of Athletics Bruce Baumgartner upon her hiring. “She is a very energetic individual and we look for her to hit the ground running. This is an exciting time for our lacrosse program. We believe a sound foundation is in place and we look forward to the continued growth and prosperity of the program under Caitlin.”

This marks Formato’s first collegiate head coaching position after previously being hired as an assistant coach at St. Bonaventure. She posted a 7-10 record in her first season in charge of the Fighting Scots, matching the school record for wins in a season.

Formato picked up her first career coaching victory in her first match as head coach, as Edinboro opened the 2016 season with an 18-6 win at Alderson Broaddus. In fact, she guided the Fighting Scots to wins in their first four contests, just the second time the program had started 4-0.

She also guided Edinboro to another first. The Fighting Scots handed 18th-ranked Seton Hill a 15-13 defeat on March 23, 2016. It marked the first-ever win for Edinboro against a nationally-ranked team.

When the season ended, a pair of Fighting Scots earned All-PSAC honors, the first time Edinboro had more than one honoree. Cydney Hrycko and Paige Skinner were both accorded second team All-PSAC honors, the first time an Edinboro player earned more than a spot on the third team.

Following a successful career as a student-athlete at George Mason, Formato was named head coach of the Malvern St. James School in Worcestershire, England. She coached there for the past two years, heading four different age group teams.

Formato also was the director of the Lacrosse United summer camp in Lancaster in 2012 and 2013, as well as coach of the Lady Monsters travel team.
