FERNANDEZ EARNS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS
Senior forward Karisa Fernandez is the reigning PSAC Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week after helping the Fighting Scots to a 2-0 week. She scored the first two goals in Edinboro's 3-0 win over Roberts Wesleyan last Wednesday. On Saturday, Fernandez scored the game-winning goal at 98:36 to beat Kutztown 3-2. Fernandez finished last week with eight shots, seven on goal, and three goals giving her six points.

HIGH-SCORING DUO
The Fighting Scots have scored 23 goals thus far on the season, with much of the offense coming from the high-scoring combination of sophomore Liz Debo and senior Karisa Fernandez. Debo and Fernandez have combined for 14 goals – Debo leads the PSAC with nine scores while Fernandez has five, three coming in the past week.

TIGHE BREAKS THROUGH
Senior Stephanie Tighe scored her first goal of the season last Saturday vs. Kutztown, the third goal of her career after scoring twice last year. Tighe has created multiple opportunities this year, with 14 shots on the season. The Highland Heights, Ohio native has traditionally played well against Cal with a goal and an assist against the Vulcans last year. Last Saturday's goal came off a corner kick from classmate Kelsey Knoll, who had two assists in the Kutztown win and now has four points on the year.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
Edinboro completes a string of four straight home matches on Wednesday vs. Cal. The Fighting Scots have played some of their best soccer at home this year, posting a perfect 5-0 record. Four of those wins have been by shutout as the Scots have outscored their opposition by a total of 14-2 at Sox Harrison Stadium.

ABOUT CALIFORNIA (Pa.)
The Vulcans scored their first league championship in school history a year ago after finishing the year with a 20-1-2 overall record and 12-0-2 standing in PSAC play. They reached the PSAC championship game for the second straight year and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament before suffering their only loss of the season, a 1-0 defeat at Saint Rose. Cal finished ranked sixth in the final NSCAA Top 25. Following the season, former head coach Al Alvine left to take over the program at Division I Duquesne. The Vulcans are 7-2-1 under first year-head coach Gene Smith, who was previously an assistant at Cal. This fall, Cal has suffered two losses – in double overtime at West Virginia Wesleyan, 1-0, on Sept. 5, and a 2-1 loss at nationally-ranked West Chester on Sept. 22. Cal played a scoreless tie in its last time out at Lock Haven on Saturday. The Vulcans have allowed just six goals this year while outshooting opponents, 190-81.

LAST YEAR'S MATCHES
In last year's regular season meeting between the two teams, Cal sealed the first regular season PSAC title in its program history with a 3-1 victory at Sox Harrison Stadium. An own goal in the 57th minute accounted for the first score before Carley Work scored in the 63rd minute and Chelsea Crockett added the third goal in the 67th minute. Samantha Kaiser scored Edinboro's goal off a Stephanie Tighe assist at 85:23.

The schools met again in the PSAC Semifinals and Cal grabbed the advantage with a goal in the third minute. The Vulcans scored again on a penalty kick at 16:21 and never looked back. Meghan Kelly had seven saves in the match after entering following a red card to the Boro's starting goalie. Tighe scored Edinboro's goal during the second half of play.
