Marah Maycock had a career-high 20 kills and
Tabitha Meeks added 15 kills and 19 digs as the Edinboro Fighting Scots volleyball squad took a five-set thriller from visiting Notre Dame (Oh.) 3-2 on Tuesday evening.
Maycock was the steady offensive performer for the Fighting Scots, tallying five kills in the first, second and fourth sets and four kills in the third set. Meeks was no slouch either, leading the team with three big kills in the closing moments of set five.
Edinboro (8-16, 5-6 PSAC) had to come from behind in all three of their set victories.
In set one, the Fighting Scots fended off four consecutive set points and scored the final five points after trailing 24-21 to take the set 26-24.
Edinboro looked out of sync in set two, hitting just .069 and registering seven kills as a team, resulting in a 25-13 loss.
It took another big comeback to win set three. After trailing the Falcons 19-13, Edinboro went on a 12-4 run to earn a 25-23 third set victory.
The fourth set was yet another close match as both teams traded the lead several times. The Notre Dame defense was solid, holding Edinboro to a .022 team hitting percentage. The Falcons mustered just enough offense to take the set 25-23.
The fifth and final set took yet another comeback by the Fighting Scots to secure the victory. The fifth set is a race to 15 and Edinboro was down 13-9 before mounting a massive comeback, scoring the last six points and taking a 15-13 set victory, giving them a 3-2 match win.
Katie Felix also had a career day for Edinboro, netting 39 assists.
Haley Marett led the team with 20 digs and
Christina Furda notched 15.
Maria Concheck added three more blocks, giving her 68 on the season.
Megan Branchick tallied nine kills, three digs, and two blocks for Edinboro.
Notes: Edinboro finished with 59 kills as a team compared to 49 for Notre Dame … Maycock's 20 kills and Meeks' 15 put them in a tie for the team lead at 219 each … Maycock's previous career high was 17 on Sept. 22, 2012 against East Stroudsburg … Felix's previous career high was 37, which she did twice … Edinboro faces the top teams in the PSAC West in their next five matches, all on the road
