STORYLINE
Slippery Rock and Edinboro both remain in the hunt for a home match in the upcoming PSAC Tournament as the Fighting Scots locked up a position in the conference post-season with Tuesday's win at Lock Haven. Edinboro currently has 22 points, tied for fourth place in the PSAC standings with Gannon, however Gannon holds the head-to-head tiebreaker by virtue of their 4-0 win last month. The Rock enters Saturday's match with 19 points on the year and has not yet secured a spot on the conference tournament.
SCOTS WIN FIRST MATCH UNDER SALLIE
Edinboro played without head coach
Gary Kagiavas for the first time on Tuesday as Kagiavas remains hospitalized following an automobile accident last weekend. Kagiavas is the only head coach in Edinboro women's soccer history, overseeing the team's first 311 matches over the past 16 years. Assistant coach
Jamie Sallie has been appointed acting head coach while Kagiavas recovers from his injuries. A standout as a player at Edinboro, Sallie owns the Scots' all-time goals record with 37 scored during her time in red and white. She has been an assistant under Kagiavas for eight seasons.
SENIOR DAY
The Fighting Scots will honor their nine seniors before Saturday's match. Edinboro's seniors are:
Catherine Messmer,
Kelsey Knoll,
Stephanie Tighe,
Karisa Fernandez,
Jenna Madison,
Nicole Hoffman,
Casey Rogozinski,
Cassee Kiplinger and
Amanda Bartell. This year's group of seniors have been a part of one of the most successful periods in school history, posting a 43-22-18 mark over the past three-plus seasons including a school-record 15 wins last year. Edinboro has also won double-digit matches in three straight years for the first time and reached the NCAA Tournament for the very first time last fall.
KELLY TIES SEASON SHUTOUT RECORD
Sophomore
Meghan Kelly recorded her sixth shutout of the season in Edinboro's 2-0 win at Lock Haven on Tuesday. That ties Kelly for the Fighting Scots' all-time single season shutout record. Last year, Kate Stukbauer also had six individual shutouts and Trish Chilcott first set the mark during the 2005 season. With one more shutout, Kelly would own the record by herself.
HITTING DOUBLE DIGITS
With Tuesday's victory, Edinboro again hit the 10-win mark. The Fighting Scots have now won 10 or more matches in three straight seasons, the first time that has been accomplished in school history.
MAKING HER GOALS COUNT
Senior
Karisa Fernandez scored her 29th goal in red and white on Tuesday at Lock Haven, moving her just one goal out of a tie for fifth-most in Edinboro history. She has scored six goals this year and four of those scores have been game-winning goals.
