Boro Volleyball Drops Match to Mercyhurst

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) ERIE, Pa. (Oct. 30, 2012) – Megan Branchick had 14 kills, but it was not enough as the Mercyhurst Lakers downed the Edinboro Fighting Scots 3-1 in volleyball action Tuesday evening at Mercyhurst. 
 
Edinboro (8-21, 5-11 PSAC) gutted out a set one victory 26-24, and hoped to ride that momentum into the rest of the match, but dropped set two 25-18.  In set three, Mercyhurst (24-6, 11-5 PSAC) was able to topple the Fighting Scots 25-18 before putting the match away with a 25-15 set four victory.
 
Branchick's 14 kills were the second most kills in a single match of her career.  Her career high is 15, set in the previous match on Oct. 27 against Indiana (Pa.).  She now has 62 kills in her last six games.  Tabitha Meeks finished with nine kills and added 15 digs.  Haley Marett led the defense once again, notching 22 kills, giving her 489 on the year. 
 
Mercyhurst's defense was key in the win, holding Edinboro to a .013 hitting percentage for the match (39K, 37E, 155TA).  Mercyhurst finished with an astounding 12 total team blocks with Becky Smith pouring in seven and Veronica Crosby, Camille Alvarez, and Sarah Vick each adding five apiece. 
 
Edinboro has dropped their last seven conference matches, and their last five matches overall.  The Fighting Scots next welcome Gannon on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m.
