Box Score (New/Sortable Format) EDINBORO, Pa. (Nov. 9, 2012) – It took the Edinboro volleyball team five sets, but they were able to take down Clarion 3-2 on Friday night at Edinboro University. Edinboro improved to 10-22 on the season and 6-12 in the PSAC.
Edinboro was down 20-14 in the first set, but was able to crawl back to within one at 21-20, but Clarion (24-8, 13-5) pulled away late and took the first set 25-23. The second set was more back-and-forth, but Edinboro eventually came out on top 25-18. Clarion stormed back to take the third set 25-21, but wasn't unable to fend off an Edinboro charge in the fourth set as the Fighting Scots tied the match 2-2 with a 25-20 victory. Edinboro used a .292 (9K, 2E, 24TA) hitting percentage in the fifth set to finish off the Golden Eagles by a score of 15-13, sealing the match 3-2.
The Fighting Scots had four players reach double figures in digs as
Marah Maycock led the team with 19.
Erin Schatzle and
Haley Marett were right behind her with 18 and
Tabitha Meeks finished with 15 and nine kills. Maycock and
Megan Branchick each recorded 10 kills while
Maria Concheck and
Katie Felix added eight. Felix led the assisting efforts, finishing with 33. As a team, Edinboro hit .133 (52K, 28E, 181TA) compared to Clarion, who only managed a .088 (53K, 37E, 182TA) percentage.
Clarion was led by Emily Stewart, who had a match-high 23 kills and also added 14 digs. Rebecca Webb had 11 kills and Hannah Heeter finished with 10. Rebecca Beightol was Clarion's leader in assists, netting 42 in place of injured sophomore setter Laura Subject.
With the win, Edinboro avoids the first nine-win season since 1983. They play their last match of the season tomorrow against Slippery Rock at 3 p.m.
