The Edinboro volleyball team hosts its home opener this Friday, October 4th, taking on cross-town PSAC-rival Gannon. The Fighting Scots then take on another local PSAC-foe in Mercyhurst on Saturday, October 5th. Friday's match begins at 7 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse, while Saturday's is slated for 6 p.m.
Both the Fighting Scots and Golden Knights enter Friday's matchup with perfect 4-0 records in PSAC play. Mercyhurst sports a 9-5 overall mark, and a 3-1 record in the PSAC heading into Saturday's game. Â
Edinboro started the conference season off on a strong note last weekend, defeating four members of the PSAC-East division at a conference crossover event held at Gannon.
The Fighting Scots defeated West Chester by a score of 3-1 (25-23,25-21,22-25,25-9), before blanking Cheyney, 3-0 (25-11,25-18,25-16) on day one of the event. On Saturday, Edinboro triumphed in a five-game set over Kutztown, 3-2 (25-19,21-25,18-25,25-19,15-7).The Fighting Scots rounded out the event by sweeping East Stroudsburg, 3-0 (28-22,28-22,25-23) en route to a perfect 4-0 weekend. Sophomore
Megan Branchick posted a strong showing at the crossover, tallying 58 kills in three games, including a career-high 23 in Edinboro's win over Kutztown. Branchick ranks third on the team with 139 kills on the season.
Marah Maycock and
Tabitha Meeks lead the Fighting Scots with 140 kills apiece.
Haley Marett paces the Edinboro defense with 339 digs, ranking her first in the PSAC and fourth in the NCAA in this category.
Katie Felix leads the Fighting Scots with 457 assists on the year.
