Edinboro Moves into Third Place, Defeats East Stroudsburg 3-0

Box Score (New/Sortable Format) EDINBORO, Pa. (October 31, 2013) – In its final home regular season match of the season, the Edinboro women's soccer team was on a mission to try and make sure it was not its last home match all season. Battling for positioning in the standings to host a PSAC Tournament match, the Fighting Scots rolled to a 3-0 victory over East Stroudsburg. The victory gives the Scots 31 points and pushes them ahead of Shippensburg and Kutztown for third place. They now have a 12-4-1 overall record, 10-4-1 in the PSAC, and the Warriors are now eliminated from the PSAC Tournament and end the season 8-7-2 overall and 7-7-2 in conference.

Edinboro got the action started early, as Liz Debo was able to capitalize on a pass from Becca Costello for her 11th goal of the season at the 2:02 mark. Debo hit the ball from the left side of the net and Warriors goalkeeper Brittain Wagner had a chance to save it, but the ball went through her grasp and into the net. The Fighting Scots remained quiet for the rest of the first half, but received a goal from Allyson Overly in the 59th minute. Overly received a pass from Costello 30 yards out and booted it into a strong wind to the top right side of the net for her fourth goal of the season. Finally, Debo drew a foul inside the box and Costello was able to score on the penalty kick for her sixth of the season. Meghan Kelly picked up her second consecutive shutout and her seventh of the season, which sets a new school record for most shutouts in a season.

The Fighting Scots have their final regular season match of the season on Saturday, November 2 at 12:00 p.m. at West Chester. The lowest Edinboro could fall to is sixth. With a victory, they clinch the third seed. A tie will at least clinch the fifth seed or higher. The Fighting Scots hold the tiebreaker over Shippensburg, but Kutztown and Gannon hold the tiebreaker over Edinboro. East Stroudsburg's loss clinched that Mercyhurst is the final team into the PSAC Tournament.
