CHARLESTON, WV (Sept. 13, 2013) – The Edinboro volleyball team improved to 5-1 with a pair of victories during the opening day of competition in the University of Charleston(WV) Invitational.  In the morning the Fighting Scots posted a four-game win over Alderson-Broaddus.  That was followed by another four-game win over West Liberty in the evening. 
 
The day opened with a 25-18, 25-21, 16-25, 25-19 win over Alderson-Broaddus.  Tabitha Meeks paced the Fighting Scots with 12 kills.  Katie Felix added nine kills, along with a team-high 27 assists.  Haley Marett paced the Boro in digs with 20, with Marah Maycock contributing 13.  Freshman Latoya Hutchinson proved a force at the net with three block solos and four block assists.
  
The Fighting Scots then won their fourth straight match with a 25-21, 25-27, 25-19, 25-20 triumph over West Liberty.  Meeks finished with a team-high 20 kills, and also led the Scots with 30 digs.  Maria Concheck added 17 kills, with Maycock totaling 16 kills and 19 digs.   Hutchinson had 13 kills.  Felix turned in another strong performance with 12 kills, 45 assists and 20 digs.  Megan Branchick also had 12 kills.  Marett had 26 digs while Jen Gruber totaled 16 digs.
 
Edinboro plays twice on Saturday, beginning with a 9:00 a.m. match against Ohio Dominican, the one team to beat the Fighting Scots this year.  The two met last week at Clarion's Tony Banner Invitational.  That's followed by a 2:00 p.m. match against host Charleston.
