EDINBORO, Pa (January 11, 2014) – The Edinboro men's swimming team earned its first victory of the 2013-14 season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Shippensburg 132-122 on Senior Day. The Fighting Scots are 1-4 this year and the Raiders fell to 0-5. This was the final home meet for the Scots this season.

Seniors Jared Malecki and Frank Thatcher were each honored before the match.

Malecki swam strong in his final career home meet. The senior won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.98 and qualified for the PSAC Championships in the event. Malecki also won the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:16.01.

Joshua Beabout, Mitch Cattell, and Nicholas Wilkinson each added multiple wins as well. Beabout won the 1000 yard freestyle (10:20.73) and 500 yard freestyle (5:00.64). Cattell added victories in the 50 yard freestyle (21.81) and 100 yard freestyle (48.94) while Wilkinson did so in the 100 yard backstroke (56.13) and 200 yard backstroke (2:04.40).

Wilkinson and Cattell also competed on the 200 yard medlay relay team with Luke Frederick and Justin Ransel that won with a time of 1:39.85. Frederick also won the 100 yard breaststroke (1:02.00) while Ransel pitched in a second place effort in the 50 yard freestyle (22.36).

The Fighting Scots will be back in the pool next Friday, January 17. They will be competing in Tiffin, Ohio at 1:00 p.m. against Malone and Tiffin.
