CLARION, Pa. (January 25) – The Edinboro men's swimming team lost to Clarion 173-107 on Saturday, January 25 in Clarion. The loss puts the Fighting Scots record at 1-7 while the Golden Eagles improved to 2-1.
Josh Beabout was the only Fighting Scot to win multiple events. The first victory came from Beabout in the 1,650 yard freestyle (17:24.43). The sophomore also added a win in the 500 yard freestyle (4:57.44).
The only other first place finish for the Scots came in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The grouping of
Jared Malecki,
Justin Ransel,
Luke Frederick, and
Micah Cattell finished the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:28.45. Malecki, Ransel, and Cattell would team with
Nick Wilkinson to finish second in the 200 yard medley relay (1:38.57).
Cattell added two more second place finishes. The sophomore placed second in the 100 yard backstroke (56.25) and 100 yard freestyle (49.12).
Ryne Fromholzer also finished with two second place finishes in individual events. The freshman had a time of 18:12.73 in the 1,650 yard freestyle and 5:03.73 in the 500 yard freestyle.
Malecki, Ransel, and Wilkinson all produced another second place finish as well. Malecki's came in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:15.29), Ransel's in the 50 yard freestyle (22.01), and Wilkinson's in the 200 yard backstroke (2:01.04).
Next month, Edinboro would compete in the PSAC Championships. The championships are in York, Pa. and will be from February 20-23.
