Edinboro Wins Seventh In a Row to Tie School Record, Defeat Lock Haven 4-1

EDINBORO, Pa. (October 11, 2014) - The Edinboro women's soccer team tied a school record with its seventh consecutive victory in a 4-1 win at home against Lock Haven on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Scots scored their final three goals in the last ten minutes of the game. Edinboro improves to 7-4-1 overall and in the PSAC while the Lady Eagles fall to 2-9-1 overall and 2-8-1 in conference play.

Jansen Hartmann struck early for the Fighting Scots. The junior midfielder/forward took the ball into the middle of the field at the top of the box and drilled it into the left side of the net to give the Scots a 1-0 advantage. This sparked what would be a busy day on the pitch for Hartmann.

Edinboro had a chance to extend the lead two minutes later but Liz Debo missed a wide open header high that was delivered to her off of a corner kick.

Becca Costello (9) tallied her 14th
career goal.
Lock Haven saw its first chance on net in the 18th minute. Haylea Myers created some room but the shot missed high. In the 31st minute, Alyn Fuchs missed an open chance wide. Fuchs dribbled by a few defenders to the middle of the box to create a chance that went just outside the right post.

In the 39th minute, Becca Costello dribbled into the box and narrowly lost possession which went to Hartmann. Lock Haven's goalkeeper Morgan Euston was able to come out and meet Hartmann at the ball to prevent a goal.

One final chance came for the Fighting Scots in the closing seconds of the opening frame. Shannon Regan hit a free kick from the 40-yard line that hit the crossbar.

The Lady Eagles tied the game up early in the second half. Haylea Myers chipped in her second goal of the season from the middle of the box into the left side of the net in the 52nd minute to make it a 1-1 game.

From there on out it would be all Edinboro. Hartmann had two great chances in the 59th and 61st minutes. The first chance she had was saved and the other was deflected out of bounds.

Debo received a pass in the 67th minute from Costello on the left wing and was able to drive it into the box before letting a shot rip that was stopped. Shortly after that, Costello lobbed a pass into the box to Hartmann but the Lock Haven defender forced a weak shot.

The Scots seemed like they were about to take the lead in the 70th minute. Mary Kate Zahorchak dealt an arching cross into the box heading right in front of the Euston. Alex Brown stepped in front of the goalie and got a foot on the ball but the ball deflected straight into the air and Euston caught it.

Ashley Devito broke the tie in the 80th minute. Costello took a shot on net that was deflected by the Lady Eagles defense right to DeVito who shot it into the bottom right corner from 20 yards out to give Edinboro a 2-1 lead. It was DeVito's third goal of the season, a new career-high for the senior midfielder/defender.

Hartmann then struck once again three minutes later. Costello delivered a pass to her that she took down the right middle with a defender trailing on her back. Hartmann then drilled it into the top right corner for her second of the game to push the lead to 3-1.

goal of the season, a new career-high.

Costello scored the final goal off a pass from Debo in the 87th minute. It was the senior defender/midfielder's 14th career goal which puts her in sole possession of 13th in school history. The three points by Costello also puts her into a tie for 12th all-time in career points with Alyssa Murosky at 41.

Edinboro outshot Lock Haven 27-8 in the game. The Fighting Scots fired 15 shots on net while the Lady Eagles only had one.

Hartmann finished the day with eight shots, six on goal, and the two goals. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native now leads the team with five goals and three assists this season. The five goals tie a career-high for Hartmann in a season and this was also her first ever multi-goal game. She now has 13 career goals which ties her for 14th most in school history. Hartmann's 38 career points is also 13th all-time in school history.

Debo's assist was her 80th career point. That broke a tie with Amy Hazen for fourth most points in school history. The senior forward is now 10 points away from Nicole Vlahovic's career points record while also one goal away from assistant coach Jamie Sallie's (formerly Jamie Tekotte) goals record.

Edinboro's seventh straight victory tied a school record set by the 2007 team for most consecutive wins. The Scots are one win or tie shy of tying the record for most consecutive games without a loss which they set last season.

The 4-1 victory was the Fighting Scots second largest margin of victory this year (largest was a 4-0 victory against Pitt-Johnstown on September 27) and the second time they scored four goals this season.

Edinboro next plays its first non-conference game of the season against Roberts Wesleyan. That game will kick-off at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14.
