EDINBORO, Pa. (October 16, 2014) - The Edinboro women's soccer team will host Mansfield on Saturday, October 16 at Sox Harrison Stadium. The Fighting Scots will be hosting Senior Day and honoring eight seniors before the game. Edinboro enters 7-5-1 overall and 7-4-1 in PSAC play while the Mounties are 3-9-1 overall and 2-9-1 in conference.
Edinboro is honoring a group of seniors before the game that has helped lead the program to its first three NCAA Tournament berths. The eight seniors being recognized are
Ivonne Aguilar,
Lauralee Clements,
Becca Costello,
Liz Debo,
Ashley DeVito,
Brittani Genco,
Meghan Kelly, and
Allyson Overly.
The Fighting Scots have posted a 47-21-6 record the past four seasons. In 2011, the team set a school record for wins in a season (15). The following season they won 13 games and set a school record for fewest goals allowed in a season (18). Last season, Edinboro set a school record for most consecutive games without a loss at eight (7-0-1). This season they tied the school record set by the 2007 team for longest winning streak (seven).
Kelly has been starting in net for the past four years. The senior goalkeeper holds the school record for wins (38), shutouts (20), and minutes (5956). This season Kelly has made 40 saves and has a 1.03 goals against average with three shutouts.
Jansen Hartmann has paced the Fighting Scots in scoring this season. The junior midfielder/forward leads the team in goals (5), assists (3), and points (13). All of Hartmann's points have come in the last seven games.
Mansfield is led by Brielle Filtch. The freshman midfielder/forward is the only Mountie with multiple goals this season. Filtch has scored three goals including two in the last three games. Her other goal came in a 3-1 win against Pitt-Johnstown. The Marcellus, N.Y. native has started in all 13 games this season.
Kelsey Chapman is the Mounties leader in assists. The junior from Philadelphia, Pa. has tallied one goal and three assists for five points. Chapman has played in 12 games this season starting 11 at forward.
Edinboro has never lost in this series as they hold 6-0-2 advantage. The Fighting Scots hold a 4-0-0 record at home and defeated Mansfield 3-0 last season. Edinboro received two goals in the first ten minutes from the likes of Debo and Hartmann. Costello put the nail in the coffin in the 81
st minute.
Following this game Edinboro will host its final home game of the regular season on Wednesday, October 22 against Slippery Rock. That will be the women's soccer Fighting Scots Fighting Cancer Day as they will be wearing alternate pink uniforms. Proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The game is scheduled to kick-off at 6:00 p.m.
