EDINBORO, Pa. (Oct. 18, 2014) – The Edinboro volleyball team jumped out to fast start and ended up sweeping Indiana(Pa.) in three games on Saturday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots prevailed by scores of 25-18, 25-22, 25-13 to improve to 19-7 overall and 10-5 in the PSAC. The 19 wins eclipses last year's win total of 18 matches. IUP dropped to 9-13 and 5-10, respectively.
Edinboro sprinted to an 11-0 lead and eventually led 15-1 in the first game. The Crimson Hawks would rally to pull to within 22-18 before the Fighting Scots closed out the match with three straight points.
The second game was much closer, as IUP held a narrow 22-21 advantage. The Scots again closed strong with the final four points. Edinboro followed the script of the first game in game number three, jumping out to an 11-3 lead. This time the Scots didn't let IUP back into the game as the lead grew to 18-7. The Crimson Hawks would not pull any closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Marah Maycock paced the Fighting Scots with 10 kills and a .429 hitting percentage. The junior outside hitter added a team-high 14 digs and four service aces.
Tabitha Meeks contributed nine kills while
Jen Gruber had six.
Haley Marett and
Challen Litwiler were also in double digits in digs with 14 and 11, respectively.
Sydney Trathen had 20 assists, with
Katie Felix adding 10.
Edinboro returns to action next weekend with a pair of key PSAC matches as the second half of divisional play begins. The Fighting Scots host Gannon on Friday, October 24, then play host to Mercyhurst on Saturday, October 25.
