EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team fell by a score of 3-1 (21-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-22) to visiting Mercyhurst in a PSAC Western Division matchup on Saturday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse. The win propels the Lakers past the Fighting Scots into fifth place in the PSAC West standings, as Edinboro dropped to 19-9 overall and 10-7 in conference play, and Mercyhurst boosted its record to 16-9 and 11-6, respectively.
The contest marked the Fighting Scots' annual "Dig for a Cure" match, as Edinboro wore pink jerseys in support of the fight against breast cancer. Edinboro also held a Chinese auction during the game with the proceeds benefitting the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Trailing 21-20 in the first game, the Fighting Scots scored five consecutive points to earn a 25-21 set victory to take an early 1-0 advantage in the match.
Marah Maycock paced Edinboro with four kills en route to the game one triumph.

of the fight against breast cancer.The Lakers responded with a convincing 25-14 win in the second game, before sealing the match win with 25-21 and 25-22 victories in the third and fourth games, respectively.
Maycock led the Fighting Scots with ten kills to go along with 14 digs.
Haley Marett fronted the Edinboro defense with a game-high 24 digs, while
Sydney Trathen added 12 digs and a team-high 24 assists.
Latoya Hutchinson,
Maria Concheck and
Tabitha Meeks each contributed seven kills apiece. Hutchinson recorded a game-high .467 hitting percentage with seven kills and no hitting errors in 15 attempts.
Rachel Crittle paced all players with 17 kills for Mercyhurst, followed by Sarah Wegrzyn with 14 kills and Camille Alvarez with 13 kills.
Kelly Vitt dished out a game-high 53 assists, while tying a team-high with 16 digs. Tai Lattimore also tallied 16 digs in the victory.
The Fighting Scots, who have now lost three out of their last four contests after winning four matches in a row, now sit in sixth place in the PSAC Western Division standings with a 10-7 ledger. The top four teams from both the Eastern and Western Divisions qualify for the PSAC Championship Tournament. Edinboro has five matches remaining on its schedule, including three contests against teams ahead of the Fighting Scots in the standings in California (Pa.), Seton Hill and Clarion. Edinboro last qualified for the postseason during the 2011 campaign.
The Fighting Scots return to action on Tuesday, October 28 travelling to Slippery Rock. The match against The Rock is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from Morrow Fieldhouse in Slippery Rock, Pa. The Rock enters Tuesday's contest with a 16-10 overall mark and a 9-8 record in PSAC play.
