SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –
Tabitha Meeks tallied a game-high 17 kills and 11 digs, while
Jen Gruber added 14 kills to help the visiting Edinboro women's volleyball team earn a 3-1 (25-17, 25-22, 26-28, 25-17) triumph over Slippery Rock on Tuesday night in a PSAC Western Division matchup in Slippery Rock, Pa. The Fighting Scots boosted their record to 20-9 overall and 11-7 in conference play with the win, and The Rock dropped to 16-11 and 9-9, respectively.
After earning a 25-17 victory in the first game, Edinboro faced a 21-18 deficit in the second set.
The Fighting Scots would outscore Slippery Rock 7-1, fueled by two kills by
Maria Concheck to pick up a 25-22 win and jumping out to a two-game lead.
The Rock responded with a 28-26 win in the third set, before Edinboro answered with a 25-17 triumph in the fourth set to earn the 3-1 match victory.
Edinboro recorded advantages of 71-49 in kills, 71-46 in assists and 92-73 in digs en route to the conference victory.
Meeks posted a season-high .500 hitting percentage with 17 kills and just one hitting error in 32 attempts.
Freshman setter
Sydney Trathen contributed a game-high 36 assists, 15 digs and eight kills, while
Katie Felix added 26 assists and 15 digs in the win.
Haley Marett recorded a game-high 20 digs and
Maria Concheck added 11 kills and three block assists for the Fighting Scots.
Leah Jones led Slippery Rock with 12 kills and Janna Reilly had a team-high 24 assists.
Edinboro returns to action on Friday, October 31 hosting California (Pa.) in a Halloween edition of PSAC volleyball at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots then closes its home portion of the 2014 regular season schedule against visiting Seton Hill on Saturday, November 1 at 1 p.m.
With tonight's win, Edinboro moves into a tie for fifth place in the PSAC Western Division standings with Mercyhurst, as both teams own an 11-7 ledger in PSAC play.
The Fighting Scots have four conference matches to play, including three contests against teams head of Edinboro in the PSAC West standings, beginning with their two matches this weekend against fourth-place California (13-5) and third place Seton Hill (14-4).
