EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro volleyball team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup against visiting California (Pa.) by a score of 3-1 on Friday night at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots came out on top in the first game 28-26, before the Vulcans responded with three straight victories of 25-9, 25-21 and 25-21 to seal the conference triumph. Edinboro moves to 22-10 on the year and 11-8 in PSAC play, while Cal improves to 22-8 and 14-5, respectively.
Second place in the "Best Costume"
contest went to Haley Marett and the Edinboro scoreboard.The Fighting Scots used 14 kills, including six from
Jen Gruber to earn a 28-26 win in the first game and gain a 1-0 advantage. The Vulcans roared back with three consecutive victories to collect the PSAC win.
Haley Marett tallied a game-high 19 digs, surpassing 2,000 digs for her career. The senior libero sits second all-time in school history with 2,010 career digs.
Gruber matched a game high with 12 kills to lead the Fighting Scots attack.
Latoya Hutchinson and
Tabitha Meeks each added eight kills.
Sydney Trathen paced Edinboro with 25 assists and 13 digs, while
Challen Litwiler contributed 15 digs.
Mary Lavery led the Vulcans with 12 kills and a .611 hitting percentage, followed by Rachel Snyder with 10 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. California posted a .341 hitting percentage as a team, the highest against the Fighting Scots this season. Megan Litowitski distributed a team-high 23 assists.
Edinboro returns to action tomorrow, Saturday November 1, hosting Seton Hill at 1 p.m as the Fighting Scots will celebrate Senior Day. Seniors
