BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (October 8, 2014) -
Liz Debo had a flair for the dramatics on Wednesday evening at Bloomsburg. The senior forward scored both of the Fighting Scots goals including the game-winner in the 102
nd minute to secure the 2-1 victory for the Edinboro women's soccer team. Edinboro has now won six straight games and improved its overall and PSAC record to 6-4-1. Bloomsburg falls to 4-6-1 overall and 3-6-1 in conference.
The Fighting Scots entered overtime looking for their first overtime victory this season after losing 2-1 at home to Gannon in the season-opener and following that with a 2-2 tie at Mercyhurst. Edinboro was the only team to take a shot in the first overtime but all three of its efforts were turned away.
Debo struck early in the second overtime. She rocketed a shot from the right wing just outside the box that found its way into the low left of the net to give the Scots the win.
Edinboro seemed to be in control early on. The Fighting Scots fired off 10 first half shots compared to the Huskies two. Debo would be the Scot to finally capitalize in the 31
st minute for her third goal of the season.
Reilee DuPratt lobbed the ball 25 yards over the heads of the Bloomsburg defense to Debo who beat the goalkeeper Megan Deak to the lower right side of the net.
Bloomsburg nearly answered in the 35
th minute.
Meghan Kelly had to make a diving save to prevent Hannah Miller from scoring.
Alexis Becker then had an opportunity to extend the Edinboro lead to two goals before halftime. Deak was out of position but a Bloomsburg defender blocked the shot by Becker to prevent a goal.
The second half belonged to the Huskies. Bloomsburg outshot Edinboro 10-1 in the second half. The Huskies would tie the game up in the 71
st minute off the foot of Megan Carroll. Kelly kept a shot from Allie Camp out of the net but could not stop the subsequent shot off the rebound by Megan Carroll.
Debo's two goals now put her at a team-high four goals this season and 36 career goals which moves her into second in school history ahead of Nicole Vlahovic. The North Huntingdon, Pa. native is now one goal away from tying assistant coach
Jamie Sallie (formerly Jamie Tekotte) for most goals in school history.
The Fighting Scots six-game winning streak is the second longest in school history. If they can win their next outing they will tie the record set by the 2007 team.
Edinboro now returns home after a five-game absence from Sox Harrison Stadium. The Scots host Lock Haven on Saturday, October 11. Edinboro has won the last five games in the series. That match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
