GREENSBURG, Pa. (November 19, 2014) –
Henri Wade-Chatman dropped in a career-high 30 points, knocking down 6 of 11 shots from behind the arc to lead the Fighting Scots men's basketball team to a convincing 89-64 victory over host Seton Hill on Wednesday night in both teams' Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opener. Edinboro improved to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play with the win, while the Griffins dropped to 0-1 and 0-1, respectively.
Wade-Chatman made 11 of 22 field goals overall and connected on two of four shots from the free throw line for the Fighting Scots. The 6'2'' guard topped his previous career-best of 28 markers, a figure he reached twice last season, first against these same Griffins on December 4, 2013 and then against Clarion in the season finale on February 26, 2014. His 11 made field goals and six three-point makes each match career-highs, as well.
Trailing 16-11 with 14:03 remaining in the first half, Edinboro used a 26-4 run fueled by five three-point baskets, including two from
Jaymon Mason to give the Fighting Scots a 37-20 lead with 6:20 to play in the opening period. The run began with five consecutive points by Wade-Chatman and capped by an old-fashioned three-point play by
Casey Baker.
Edinboro would hold an 18-point advantage at the half at 52-30, before building their lead to as many as 28 points in the second half at the 6:33 mark on a Wade-Chatman three-pointer.
Jaymon Mason tallied 12 points for Edinboro.The Fighting Scots held on for a 25-point triumph, representing Edinboro's largest margin of victory in a conference game since defeating Lock Haven 107-78, a 29-point margin on February 19, 2011.
Wade-Chatman was one of four Fighting Scots in double-figures, as
Jaymon Mason added 12 points, while
Chibunna Ukandu and
Tommy Scales each tallied 10 points off the bench. Mason made 3 of 6 field goal attempts, including 2 of 2 three-pointers. The redshirt freshman also made all four of his attempts from the charity stripe. Ukandu and Scales combined to shoot 8-for-12 from the field for Edinboro.
Casey Baker pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, followed by
Will Marrow and
Quinn Lee Yaw who added six boards apiece.
Sam Sealy-James posted three blocked shots in the contest.
Noah Davis led Seton Hill with 22 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while David Windsor had 21 markers.
Edinboro shot 45.7 percent (32-for-70) for the game, including 50.0 percent (12-for-24) from behind the arc, compared to Seton Hill's 42.3 percent (22-for-52) from the field and 33.3 percent (7-for-21) on 3-pointers.
The Fighting Scots connected on 81.3 percent (13-for-16) of free throw attempts, including six of six in the first half to outshoot the Griffins, who made 65.0 percent (13-for-20) of attempts from the foul line.
Edinboro dished out 14 assists as a team, while committing just six turnovers. Ten of 13 Fighting Scots recorded at least one assist.
Edinboro outrebounded Seton Hill 41-33 in the contest.
The Fighting Scots scored 18 points off 12 Griffin turnovers, while Seton Hill scored just four points off Edinboro turnovers.
The Fighting Scots also blanked Seton Hill in both second-chance points and bench points 10-0 and 14-0, respectively.
Edinboro returns to action Saturday, November 22, hosting California (Pa.) in a PSAC Western Division matchup. The game is slated to begin at 3 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse.
