EDINBORO, Pa. (December 17, 2014) –
Henri Wade-Chatman netted 28 points and
Jaymon Mason tallied a career-high 25 markers as the Edinboro men's basketball team earned an 88-76 victory over visiting Millersville in a PSAC Crossover contest on Wednesday night at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots won their second consecutive game to improve to 5-4 on the season and 3-3 in PSAC play, while the Marauders dropped their third straight contest, falling to 4-7 and 1-5, respectively.
Edinboro shot a sizzling 61.5 percent (8 of 13) from behind the arc in the first half to jump out to a 44-28 advantage at halftime. The Fighting Scots build their lead to as many as 23 points at 59-36 at the 13:22 mark of the second half after a Mason layup.
Henri Wade-Chatman-Millersville, who connected on 14 of 15 free throws in the second half, pulled within nine points at 74-65 with three minutes to play after Sam Light knocked down three free throws. The Fighting Scots then responded with five straight points, including a trio of free throws from Wade-Chatman to give Edinboro a14-point lead at 79-65 with 2:19 to play.
The Marauders would once again cut the deficit to nine points at 83-74 with 1:06 to play, but the Fighting Scots sank 5 of 6 shots from the charity stripe, including 2 of 2 from both Mason and
Jeremy Lynch in the final minute of the game to seal the 88-76 conference triumph.
Wade-Chatman connected on 9 of 16 field goals in the game, including 5 of 7 tries from behind the arc. The Pittsburgh native also connected on 5 of 6 free throws, while tying a game-high with five assists. He has now scored at least 20 points in four games this season and in nine contests in his career.
Mason, who surpassed his previous career-high of 23 points which came against California (Pa.) earlier this season, made 8 of 13 field goals on the night, 2 of 4 3-pointers and was a perfect 7 of 7 from the charity stripe. The redshirt freshman guard also pulled down five rebounds. He has now scored in double-figures in eight consecutive games and has eclipsed the 20-point plateau now on three occasions.
Tommy Scales added 10 rebounds and tied a game-high with six rebounds, while
Casey Baker also grabbed six boards.
Chibunna Ukandu, who made his first career start with the Fighting Scots, scored nine points on 3 of 3 shooting from long range.
Kelvin Parker and Sam Light each paced Millersville with 17 points apiece, followed by Eddie Callender with 16 markers. Parker also swiped a game-high six steals.
Edinboro jumped out to a 13-4 lead just over three minutes into the contest fueled by a pair of Ukandu 3-pointers. The Marauders made just 1 of 5 field goals during that stretch.
The Fighting Scots led by as many as 19 points at 36-17 at the 6:44 mark of the opening stanza after a 3-pointer by Wade-Chatman, before holding a 16-point lead at the break.
Edinboro shot 57.1 percent (28 of 49) from the field in the win, including 60.0 percent (18-30) in the first half, while Millersville connected on 43.6 percent (24 of 55) of field goals on the night.
The Fighting Scots knocked down 10 of 17 3-pointers, good for 58.8 percent. The Marauders made 6 of 25 (24.0 percent) shots from behind the arc in the game.
Both teams found success at the charity stripe, as Edinboro was 22 of 26 (84.6 percent) from the free throw line, compared to Millersville shooting 22 of 28 (78.6 percent), including 14 of 15 (93.3 percent) in the second half on free throws.
The Fighting Scots held a 36-21 advantage in rebounding, including eight offensive rebounds leading to a 15-8 advantage in second-chance points.
The Marauders used stifling full-court pressure to force 26 turnovers, including 17 in the second half. Millersville owned a 14-2 advantage in fast break points on the night, as well.

Edinboro faces off with another PSAC East opponent on Saturday, as the Fighting Scots travel to Shippensburg. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. at Heiges Field House against the Raiders.
