Edinboro Extends Winning Streak to Seven Matches with Wins over West Chester, East Stroudsburg

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (September 19, 2014) – The Edinboro volleyball team opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play and extended its winning streak to seven matches with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-14, 28-26, 25-19) victory against West Chester and a 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-14) triumph over East Stroudsburg on Friday in West Chester, Pa. in a PSAC Crossover event.  
 
The Fighting Scots improved to 9-2 on the season and 2-0 in the conference with the pair of wins. The host Rams fell to 7-2 and 0-1 in league play, while the Warriors dropped to 4-6 and 0-2 in the PSAC.
 
The seven consecutive wins are the most for Edinboro since the 2011 campaign, when the Fighting Scots opened the season with seven straight victories before falling to Angelo State 3-0 in their next contest.
 
In the first match on Friday, Edinboro rattled off three consecutive set wins after suffering a 25-21 loss in the first set to West Chester.
 
Latoya Hutchinson paced the Fighting Scots with a season-high 12 kills. Sydney Trathen dished out a team-high 22 assists, while Katie Felix added 17 assists. Haley Marett paced Edinboro with 14 digs, followed by Trathen with 12 digs and Marah Maycock with 11 digs. Maria Concheck tallied a team-high four block solos to go along with four block assists.  
 
Julia O'Brien posted 11 kills to lead West Chester, while Callie Krajcir recorded a game-high 20 digs.
 
In the second game of the day, the Fighting Scots posted their fifth 3-0 sweep of the season with wins of 25-17, 26-24 and 25-14 over East Stroudsburg. Maycock paced Edinboro with nine kills in the win, Trathen recorded a team-high 18 assists and Marett led the Fighting Scots with 18 digs. Challen Litwiler tallied three service aces, as well.  
 
The Fighting Scots bested their opponents in kills on the day by a combined margin of 87-55.
 
Edinboro returns to action tomorrow in a PSAC Crossover at Cheyney. The Fighting Scots take on the host Wolves at 10:30 a.m., before facing off with Kutztown at 3:30 p.m.
