EDINBORO, Pa. – the Edinboro women's soccer team made it back-to-back wins on Wednesday night with a 2-1 win over Seton Hill in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match at Sox Harrison Stadium. The victory boosted Edinboro's record to 2-4-1 overall and in the PSAC, while the Griffins are now 3-3-1 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play.
Edinboro had plenty of scoring opportunities throughout the match while scoring just enough goals to edge the Griffins. The Fighting scots have now won all four matches against Seton Hill. The Scots had two golden scoring chances in the first five minutes, but a pair of shots by
Alex Brown and another by
Liz Debo failed to find the net.
Edinboro celebrates Liz Debo's (7) 34th career goal, tied for 3rd
place in school history. The Griffins nearly gained a 1-0 lead on a breakaway by Emma Bearinger, but that shot was also no good just over 18 minutes into the first half.
Edinboro finally grabbed a 1-0 lead when Debo scored for the second straight match. The senior's second goal of the season and 34
th of her career came at the 23:11 mark. She took a pass from
Jansen Hartmann on the right side and drilled it into the right corner of the net. Debo is now tied for third in career goals scored and moved into sixth place in career points with 74.
The Fighting scots would go up 2-0 at the 39:08 mark on freshman
Katie O'Donnell's first career goal, assisted by
Coleen Brodman, another freshman. She took a chip from Brodman on the left side and the ball rolled into the right side past goalkeeper Carolin Edenhofner.
Seton Hill answered with a goal just over two minutes later to cut the margin to 2-1. Allison Mello scored her first goal of the season off a feed from Breanna Novosel.
Neither team would score in the second half, although both had several opportunities. Debo had a breakaway from 25 yards out that was blocked by Edenhofner, and a second attempt was just wide to the right.
Jansen Hartmann tallied her first point of the year with an assist.Seton Hill's Megan Warman blasted a shot from the middle of the field that just went over the bar in the 63
rd minute, and Debo had another chance at a goal with 18 minutes remaining, but her chip from 20 yards out also went over the bar.
Edinboro ended the night with a 17-16 advantage in shots, with Boro goalkeeper
Meghan Kelly recording a pair of saves and Edenhofner finishing with five saves.
