Edinboro Extends Winning Streak to Three with 4-0 Rout of Pitt-Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (September 27, 2014) - The Edinboro women's soccer team extended its winning streak to three games with a 4-0 victory at Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday afternoon. Four different Fighting Scots scored in the contest with each recording their first of the season. Edinboro controlled the game throughout firing off 31 shots to just five by the Lady Cats. The Scots improved to 3-4-1 overall and in the PSAC while Pitt-Johnstown fell to 0-8-0 overall and 0-7-0 in conference.

Edinboro's first goal was also a first in the career of Ashley Mutkus. The freshman forward scored in the 4th minute of the contest with a kick from outside the box.

The Fighting Scots would add another goal later in the first half. Grace Kereky scored her first career goal on a shot from outside the box. The sophomore midfielder fired 16 shots on goal last year without scoring, the most shots by an Edinboro player without scoring.

Becca Costello and Jansen Hartmann each added goals in the second half. Costello's goal came on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute. It was the senior midfielder/defender's 13th career goal which is tied for 13th in school history with Sarah Kramer and Alyssa Murosky. Hartmann scored her ninth career goal on a cross from Liz Debo. The point for Debo was her 75th career point and now trails Nicole Vlahovic by 15 points for the school record.

Meghan Kelly recorded her 19th career shutout as she is closing in on being the first goalkeeper in Edinboro history to record 20 career shutouts.

The 31 shots for the Fighting Scots were the most for the program in the past two seasons.

Edinboro has nearly a week off before returning to action on Friday, October 3 at Clarion. The Fighting Scots also play the day after against Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday, October 4.
