ERIE, Pa. (September 27, 2014) - The Edinboro volleyball team saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-23) loss at Gannon. The Fighting Scots fell to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in the PSAC while the Lady Knights remain perfect this season with a 13-0 overall record and 6-0 in conference.
The Fighting Scots and Lady Knights were tied 15-15 in the first game before Gannon scored six points in a row to take a 21-15 lead. Edinboro would score the next three points but could not overcome the deficit and dropped the first game 25-19.
Edinboro rallied in the second game but fell short. Trailing 16-9 the Fighting Scots scored 12 of the next 18 points to close the gap to 22-21. The Lady Knights scored three of the final four points to take the second game 25-22.
Game three was a back and forth affair early on before Gannon scored five straight points to take a 23-15. Edinboro rallied by scoring eight of the next nine points with the Lady Knights committing four attack errors. Gannon's Jordan Thiery finished the game with her game-high 14
th kill to take the match 3-0.
The Fighting Scots ten-match winning streak was the longest for the program since it won a program record 16 straight in 2010.
Freshman
Sydney Trathen had 20 assists in the match. It is the freshman's second straight game with at least 20 assists after totaling 34 in Friday's victory over Mercyhurst. Trathen also added a career-high three service aces.
Marah Maycock led the way for the Scots with nine kills with Jen Grbuer a close second with eight kills.
Haley Marett was the only Edinboro player to finish record double-digit digs. The senior libero had 22 digs in the contest, her third highest total this season.
Gannon had three players' record 15 digs or more. Megan Wendel paced the team with 18 digs while Taryn Graham had 16 digs and Hannah Kren had 15 digs. Wendel also led the team with 28 assists. Kren finished second for the Lady Knights with 10 kills.
Edinboro hosts Slippery Rock in its second home match of the season on Tuesday, September 30. That match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in McComb Fieldhouse.
