Wade-Chatman Nets 27 Points as Edinboro Downs Pitt-Johnstown 77-61

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (January 24, 2015) – Henri Wade-Chatman scored a game-high 27 points, while Casey Baker and Tommy Scales each notched double-doubles to propel the Edinboro men's basketball team to a 77-61 victory over host Pitt-Johnstown in a PSAC West contest on Saturday afternoon at the Sports Center in Johnstown, Pa. The Fighting Scots won their second straight game and improved to 9-9 on the season and 6-8 in PSAC West play. The Mountain Cats dropped their third consecutive contest, falling to 9-9 and 6-8, respectively.

UPJ jumped out to an early 12-6 lead on a 3-pointer by A.J. Leahey, before the Fighting Scots responded with a 13-0 run fueled by 11 points from Wade-Chatman to give Edinboro a 19-12 lead with 7:46 remaining in the first half.

The Mountain Cats answered with a 9-3 run of their own to cut the deficit to one point at 22-21 with 4:37 to play in the opening period.

The Fighting Scots then used a 7-2 run capped by an old-fashioned 3-point play by Scales to build their advantage back to six points at 29-23 with just under a minute remaining in the half. UPJ's Rich Adu would nail a 3-pointer on the next UPJ possession to shrink the Edinboro lead to 29-26 at the break.

Sam Sealy-James opened the half with a layup to give the Fighting Scots a 31-26 lead, before the Mountain Cats went on a 13-5 run to take a 39-36 advantage with 13:47 remaining in the game, their first lead in nearly 19 minutes of play.

Quinn Lee Yaw hit a jumper to fuel a 6-2 run which gave the Fighting Scots a 42-41 lead with 11:27 showing on the clock, an advantage Edinboro would not relinquish from that point on.

Later in the half, Scales recorded dunks on back-to-back possessions to give Edinboro an eight-point advantage at 58-50 with 6:44 to play in the contest, before a layup by Dale Clancy cut the Fighting Scots' lead to six points at 58-52 with 6:30 remaining in the game.

Edinboro would answer with an 11-2 run keyed by Wade-Chatman's five points to put the Fighting Scots ahead by 15 points at 69-54 at the 3:28 mark of the half. Baker ignited the spurt with a layup, while Wade-Chatman finished off the run with a 3-pointer.

Edinboro did not let the Mountain Cats come within less than 12 points the rest of the way, as the Fighting Scots built their advantage to as many as 16 points when Baker put an exclamation point on the victory with his first dunk of the season with 20 seconds showing on the clock.

Wade-Chatman connected on 9-of-18 field goals, including 2-of-5 shots from behind the arc. The junior guard knocked down 7-of-8 shots from the charity stripe to go along with five rebounds and three assists.

Baker posted his first double-double of the season and 10th of his career with a season-high 19 points, 17 coming in the second half to go along with 10 boards. He made 7-of-13 field goals and drained 5-of-8 shots from the free throw line on the afternoon.

Tommy Scales posted a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Scales finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, marking his second double-double of the season. The 6'8'' center shot 6-of-8 from the field in the victory.

Jaymon Mason added seven points and a career-high eight rebounds, while Will Marrow contributed six boards, four steals and three blocked shots for the Fighting Scots.

Dale Clancy paced UPJ with 15 points, followed by Matt Palo with 14 markers.

Edinboro shot 45.2 percent (28-of-62) from the field despite connecting on a season-low 20.0 percent (2-of-10) of shots from behind the arc. The Fighting Scots were 76.0 percent (19-of-25) from the free throw line.

Edinboro forced the Mountain Cats to shoot a season-low 32.2 percent (20-of-62) on field goals. UPJ made 36.4 percent (8-of-22) of 3-pointers and 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the charity stripe.

The Mountain Cats came into the game averaging 78.1 points per game, good for second in the conference.

The Fighting Scots outscored UPJ in the paint 42-20 in the win.

Edinboro begins the second half of PSAC West play on Wednesday, hosting Seton Hill at 7:30 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse.
