EDINBORO, Pa. (Oct. 24, 2015) – Senior
Jansen Hartmann scored the game-winning goal with just under 15 minutes to play to give Edinboro an important 2-1 Senior Day victory over East Stroudsburg at Sox Harrison Stadium on Saturday. With the win the Fighting Scots improved to 10-6-0 overall and 9-5-0 in PSAC action. The Warriors are now 8-6-1 both overall and the PSAC.
The victory gives Edinboro ten wins for the sixth straight season under long-time head coach
Gary Kagiavas. More importantly, it enhances Edinboro's chances of making the PSAC Playoffs for the sixth straight year.
Jansen HartmannGannon and West Chester have clinched berths, leaving six more spots up for grabs with a week to go in the regular season. Edinboro is currently in fifth place with 27 points, one point behind fourth-place Slippery Rock. East Stroudsburg remained with 25 points, while California(Pa.) has 24 points. The Fighting Scots have two matches remaining in the regular season, at Indiana(Pa.) on Tuesday, October 27 win and at Mansfield on Saturday, October 31. A win will clinch a playoff berth for the Scots.
The game started with a strong wind blowing from end-to-end, and Edinboro took advantage of the wind to go up 1-0 early in the contest.
Alex Brown fired a shot past ESU goalkeeper Jules Harris from 25 yards out off a pass from
Halle Hammer with 12:29 gone in the match. It was Brown's fourth goal of the season.
While the wind subsided in the second half, East Stroudsburg would knot the game at 1-1 at 49:43 on an unassisted goal by Shea Neal. Her sixth goal went into the top left corner from 20 yards out.
Hartmann, one of five seniors honored prior to the contest, made Senior Day memorable as she scored the game-winning goal at the 76:46 mark. Her tenth goal of the season came from 10 yards away into the right side of the goal. It moved her into eighth place in career scoring with 67 points on 24 goals and 19 assists.
East Stroudsburg held a 14-9 advantage in shots, including 10-4 in the second half.
Sarah Baskey was up to the challenge in goal for Edinboro as the sophomore had eight saves.
