Edinboro Clinches PSAC Tournament Berth with 2-1 Win at Indiana (Pa.)

INDIANA, Pa. (October, 27, 2015) – The Edinboro University women's soccer team clinched a berth in the PSAC tournament today, claiming a 2-1 victory at Indiana (Pa.). The Fighting Scots improved to 11-6-0 overall and 10-5-0 in the PSAC. The Crimson Hawks dropped to 8-7-2 overall and 7-6-2 in the PSAC.

This marks the sixth straight year that Edinboro will play in the PSAC Tournament. The Fighting Scots can clinch a home playoff game on Saturday with a win at Mansfield. The Fighting Scots are currently fifth in the PSAC standings. In addition, Edinboro is ranked fourth in the latest NSCAA Atlantic Regional rankings. The NCAA's second set of regional rankings will come out tomorrow.

Freshman midfielder Halle Hammer gave the Fighting Scots the early lead off a cross by senior Jansen Hartmann in the 19th minute for a 1-0 lead. Crimson Hawks' midfielder Megan Coyne tied the match at one with a goal in the 28th minute, dribbling a shot in from the right side. Edinboro and Indiana (Pa.) went to the locker rooms at halftime deadlocked at one.

Sophomore Ashley Mutkus scored the game-winning goal for the Scots in the 60th minute thanks to a cross by Hartmann that Mutkus buried into the top portion of the net. She scored her sixth goal of the season after missing the previous two contests due to a death in the family.

Goalkeeper Sarah Baskey and the Edinboro defense held Indiana (Pa.) scoreless in the second half to give the Fighting Scots the victory. She collected two saves to improve her record to 9-4-0. Edinboro dominated in shots, 16-6, with nine shots on goal.

Hartmann's two assists moved her up to second all-time at Edinboro in career assists with 21 while bringing her team-leading season scoring totals to 27 points on ten goals and seven assists. Hartmann is eighth all-time in career points (69) and career goals (25).

The Fighting Scots will conclude their regular season on Saturday, October 31 at Manfield at 1:30 p.m.
