EDINBORO, Pa. (Oct. 7, 2015) – The Edinboro women's soccer team turned in an impressive showing on Wednesday evening while posting a 2-0 win over Mercyhurst in a PSAC match at Sox Harrison Stadium. With the victory, the Fighting Scots, ranked 25th in the latest NSCAA Division II national rankings, won their third straight contest while improving to 8-3-0 overall and 7-2-0 in the PSAC. Mercyhurst dropped to 5-4-2 and 4-4-2, respectively.
Edinboro wore pink jerseys as part of the Fighting Scots Fighting Cancer
game to benefit breast cancer awareness.The Fighting Scots scored a goal in each half while controlling the play for the most part in Mercyhurst's end of the field. They held a 16-5 advantage in shots, including 10-1 in the first half. That included 10 shots on goal for Edinboro and 3 for the Lakers.
Except for a two-minute stretch late in the contest,
Sarah Baskey went largely untested in the goal. The sophomore registered her fourth shutout while improving to 6-1-0. She finished with 3 saves.

Alexis Becker opened the scoring at the 40:49 mark, as she lofted a short shot over Mercyhurst goalkeeper Kristen Koch.

The Fighting Scots boosted their lead to 2-0 as freshman
Halle Hammer fired a shot from 25 yards out from in front of the goal for her sixth goal of the season at 59:11.
Now 6-0-1 in the last seven meetings with Mercyhurst, Edinboro returns to action on Saturday, October 10 playing at Bloomsburg in a 12 noon match.
